Goodfellas Pizzeria and Bar
1211 Main Street
Cincinnati, Ohio 45202
This Historic Preservation, rehabilitation and renovation project is in the heart of Cincinnati’s exciting Over-The-Rhine historic district. The historic building is a classic 1870’s three story Italianate, with the original brick masonry and upper story windows in tact. The street level and upper floor had been used as a restaurant for decades, but, hadn’t been improved since the 1990’s. The existing interior finishes, spaces and equipment were as dated and recycled. The transition into the current configuration is an amazing and remarkable success, and a result of the broad vision, experience, and sophisticated technical execution of the architect.
A classic New York style Pizza Kitchen, complete with subway tile and butcher block dining tables is within the storefront entry. The historic stairs in the rear draw the visitor up into the prohibition style bourbon bar. This soaring two story space is highlighted by a mezzanine which was made possible by removing a portion of the existing and unused third floor. The rear of the upper floor opens onto the existing patio through a new glazed garage style door, opening to and bringing in more natural air and light, and incorporating views of the patio and the existing tree. The interior finishes are reclaimed wood and existing brick, with the addition of black structural steel. The original wood floor joists have been reused as the back bar liquor shelves, soaring 16 feet above the floor, accessed by a library style rolling ladder.
This very popular destination opened officially on New Years Eve, December 31st, 2014.
